Useful Information
Visas
Visas are required by most non-residents. We advise you to get a visa before you travel, particularly if travelling for work or business. You can apply for a visa from the official Visa2Egypt portal or at your nearest Egyptian Consulate. Tourist visas granted using the e-visa system are valid for a maximum of 3 months.
Weather
Hurghada has a sub tropical desert climate with very hot dry summers and warm winters offering year round sunshine. For the highest temperatures travel between April and October but a lot of travellers visit during the winter months to experience a blend of warmth and guaranteed sun.
Vaccinations
- Courses or boosters usually advised: Poliomyelitis; Tetanus
- Other vaccines to consider: Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B; Rabies; Typhoid
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission, and for travellers having transited for more than 12 hours through an airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.
Money
Egypt's currency is the Egyptian pound which comes in coin and note form. Credit and Debit Cards are often accepted in higher footfall tourist areas although we always recommend having some cash on hand for tips and odd purchases in more rural areas.
Water
In Egypt, drinking water from the tap is not recommended. Water treatment in and around Cairo heavily chlorinate the supply, so the water in the capital is relatively safe to drink. However, it is advisable everywhere else in Egypt to purchase bottled water or drink treated or purified water.
Packing
Since the climate is warm and tropical all year round be sure to pack light washable cotton clothing and casual wear. Do not forget your sunglasses, sun block and comfortable walking shoes.
